SHANGHAI, Mar 18 (SMM) – China’s top steelmaking city, Tangshan of Hebei province, required heavy industries to implement level II anti-smog measures from CST 18:00 March 16 to CST 12:00 March 20, due to poor pollutant diffusion conditions.
Under the smog alert, category A steel mills that are located outside urban areas are required to cut capacity of sintering machines by at least 40%. Category A mills located in the urban area are required to halve sintering capacity. Category B steel mills are subject to cuts of at least 60%.
Category C mills are required to cut at least 70% of sintering capacity, while category D mills will have to suspend sintering.
Heavy industries in Tangshan face production curbs under the air pollution control plan for March. They are required to implement stricter restrictions if the curbs under air pollution control plan differ from those under a level II smog-alert .
