Votorantim Zinc Smelter Workers Cancel Strike Plan in Peru

SHANGHAI, May. 2 (SMM) – Labor union at Votorantim Metais’ Cajamarquilla zinc smelter said last Friday workers canceled their strike plan which was expected to last indefinitely since the company has agreed most of their requirements, wenhua.com reported.

The 350 workers at the labor union had planned an indefinite strike staring May 6, which would be the first in 16 years. They would did so to gain more bonus and better working conditions.

Labor union leader Daniel Trejo said the employer wanted a talk with them, and agreed most of their requirements.

Cajamarquilla zinc smelter produced some 340,000 tonnes of zinc last year.

Votorantim Metais also has copper mine business in Peru.
