TOKYO (Scrap Monster): The Japanese Ministry of Finance (MoF) has published the country’s waste and scrap export statistics for the month of January this year.
According to data, Japan exported 155,814 metric tons (MT) of ordinary steel scrap during January ’17. The largest importer was China with 100,988 MT. The other leading importers of ordinary steel scrap during the month were South Korea (47,740 MT), Taiwan (5,195 MT), Vietnam (1,307 MT) and Indonesia (322 MT). The price of overall exports averaged at $453.52 per MT.
The exports of ordinary steel scrap during the whole year 2016 had totaled 58,062 metric tons. The export prices had averaged at $159.68 per MT during the year. USA was the key importer with exports from Japan totaling 27,057 metric tons. The other primary destinations of Japanese ordinary steel scrap exports were South Korea (26,440 MT), Taiwan (3,426 MT) and Panama (230 MT).
The country’s exports of waste and scrap of Stainless Steel totaled 9,547 metric tons in January ‘17. The exports averaged at $859.51 per MT. South Korea accounted for almost 70% of the total stainless steel scrap exports by Japan during the month. The imports by South Korea totaled 6,562 metric tons, followed by Thailand (1,157 MT), Taiwan (832 MT), Malaysia (388 MT) and India (301 MT). The cumulative exports during the entire year 2016 had totaled 100,911 metric tons. The key offshore countries that constituted the exports of waste and scrap stainless steel during the year were South Korea (49,354 MT), Taiwan (21,946 MT), the USA (13,481 MT), Hong Kong (3,130 MT) and Indonesia (2,849 MT).
As per statistics, Japan exported 748 metric tons (MT) of waste and scrap of other alloy steel during Jan ’17. The largest importer was China with 666 MT. The other leading importers during the month were Hong Kong (25 MT), Taiwan (23 MT), South Korea (21 MT) and Belgium (14 MT). The price of overall Jan ’17 exports averaged at $1,507.72 per MT.
The cumulative exports of waste and scrap of other alloy steel during the whole year 2016 had totaled 13,701 metric tons. The export prices had averaged at $2,079.73 per MT during the previous year. South Korea was the key importer with exports from Japan totaling 6,132 metric tons. The other primary destinations of export were Philippines (1,283 MT), Thailand (1,148 MT), the USA(1,122 MT), Malaysia (828 MT) and Czech Republic (789 MT).
Japan’s exports of waste and scrap of shredded steel scrap totaled 39,294 metric tons in Jan ’17. The export prices averaged at $28,063 per MT. South Korea was the key importer during the month with imports of 39,294 metric tons. The other main importers during the month were Taiwan (7,162 metric tons) and Vietnam (3,066 metric tons). The country’s exports of Turnings and Stampings totaled 128,621 metric tons during Jan ’17 at an average price of $249.98. South Korea accounted for major share of the total exports by Japan during the month. The imports by South Korea totaled 105,662 metric tons, followed by Vietnam (18,355 MT), Indonesia (2,007 MT) and Taiwan (1,957 MT).
Japan exported 309,404 MT of Waste & Scrap of Heavy Melting Scrap during the month of January this year. The largest importer was South Korea (153,605 MT), followed by Vietnam (93,856 MT), China (31,969 MT) Taiwan (24,724 MT) and Thailand (5,250 MT).
The only importer of waste and scrap of tinned heavy melting scrap from Japan during the first month of the current year was Indonesia. The exports totaled 197 MT at an average price of $225.82 per metric ton.
