SMM Expects China Primary Lead Production to Rise 6,000 T in June

A latest survey indicates utilization at China’s primary lead smelters leveled out in May and SMM expects June’s primary lead output to hit the highest in H1 2015.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 9 (SMM) –  SMM expects China's primary lead output in June to hit its highest in H1 2015 as a number of smelters will resume from maintenance cycles.

Humon Smelting, Mengzi Mining & Metallurgy, Zhenxing Lead, and Western Mining will bring lead production back to normal in June following maintenance, while Jinde Lead, Jingui Silver will conduct repairs. Thus, China’s primary lead output may grow some 6,000 tonnes on the month in June, SMM predicts.

SMM surveyed 47 major primary lead smelters in China representing 4.49 million tpy in capacity to find that their utilization rate grew 3.13 percentage points to 59.05% in May.

“The lead price hikes in May have incentivized large smelters to increase production,” SMM research team noted.
