Primary lead production in China recovered, albeit at a slow pace, with lead prices rallying, SMM finds in a recent survey.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 23 (SMM) – Primary lead production in China recovered, albeit at a slow pace, with lead prices rallying, SMM finds in a recent survey.

Physical lead prices in China have risen to 13,575 yuan per tonne as of April 22, up 1,275 yuan from a month ago.

The rebound in lead prices encouraged some smelters using crude lead, but tight raw mateiral supply limited any output growth at such smelters.

Some smelters closed earlier remained hesitant to reopen as prices of by-products - silver, antimony, and bismuth - stayed weak. Yuguang Gold & Lead, Jinli Lead, Chengyuan Nonferrous, and Nanfang Nonferrous all remain in maintenance cycles. These factors also restricted the increase in primary lead output.
