[SMM Analysis: Solvent Price Changes] The prices of solvents DMC, DEC, and EMC stabilized after rising.

In September 2024, after a long period of stability, the prices of some electrolyte raw material solvents began to rise. Data shows that in September, the price of battery-grade DMC increased from 4,575 yuan/mt to 5,150 yuan/mt, a rise of 12.5%. The price of battery-grade DEC rose from 9,250 yuan/mt to 10,450 yuan/mt, an increase of 12.9%, and the price of battery-grade EMC increased from 7,575 yuan/mt to 7,775 yuan/mt, a rise of 2.6%.

The slight increase in solvent market prices in September was mainly due to the increased export volume of industrial-grade DMC, leading to tight domestic supply and a rise in industrial-grade DMC prices. This affected the sentiment of electronic-grade DMC, and the narrowing price spread between the two pushed up the price of electronic-grade DMC. Additionally, since EMC and DEC use industrial-grade DMC as a raw material, the cost further supported the price increase of the three solvents. At the same time, the operating rate of electrolyte producers increased, and the shipments of electrolytes rose, driving up the demand for solvents, which in turn led to their price increase.Entering October, the cost side prices stabilized, and the prices of electronic-grade DMC, EMC, and DEC began to level off, resulting in stable solvent prices in October.

However, the future price trend still needs to pay attention to the global economic situation and changes in industry supply and demand to better grasp market dynamics. Overall, the market still maintains a certain degree of flexibility to cope with possible future fluctuations.

SMM Daily Review: Spot lithium carbonate prices continued to drift higher on September 18
Today, SMM battery-grade lithium carbonate spot prices continued to drift higher compared with the previous working day. The lithium carbonate 2701 contract opened higher at 132,000 yuan/mt today. After the open, bulls failed to extend the gains, and bears quickly entered to pressure prices, sending them consolidating lower and accelerating downward after breaking below the average price line. Around midday, prices dipped to a low of 125,200 yuan/mt. In the afternoon, bargain hunting emerged at low levels, lifting prices slightly to around 127,500 yuan/mt before they pulled back again. Near the close, prices moved sideways around 127,000 yuan/mt, eventually closing down 2.27% at 127,200 yuan/mt, with open interest up 9,528 lots. In the spot market, downstream pre-holiday stockpiling continued, and downstream users kept buying the dip today. Upstream lithium chemical plants maintained firm sentiment on spot orders, with spot order quotes remaining relatively strong. A small number of lithium chemical plants sold spot orders mainly by referencing the website's monthly average spot price. As upstream sellers continued to hold back from selling spot orders, downstream spot order purchases were mainly concluded with traders, with some taking delivery of warrants. With active downstream purchasing and stockpiling, and upstream holding prices firm and holding back from selling, the spot-futures price spread for industrial-grade and battery-grade lithium carbonate has continued to strengthen recently, and the price spread between industrial-grade and battery-grade material has narrowed somewhat. Overall, market inquiries and actual transactions remained active.
