Based on the EPC/system bid winning results of energy storage projects tracked by SMM in January, the total capacity reached 1.6GW/3.0GWh. The capacity of bid wins in a single month declined compared to December. The largest bid winning volume this month came from the EPC general contracting project for Phase I of the 100MW/200MWh Guanling Yueliangwan electrochemical energy storage power station, with the energy storage power station having a capacity of 100MW/200MWh. The planned site of the energy storage power station is 3.2km west of Guanling County, Anshun City, Guizhou Province. It is an electrochemical energy storage power station adopting lithium iron phosphate lithium batteries. The operation mode of the energy storage power station focuses on smoothing renewable energy power plant output and peak shaving, while taking into account a certain frequency regulation capability. In terms of prices, the average bid winning price of 2-hour energy storage systems was RMB 0.74/Wh, still at low levels; the average bid winning price of 2-hour energy storage EPC was RMB 1.22/Wh, with little change compared to December. Entering 2024 Q1, most energy storage projects are still in the demonstration phase, and bid winning capacity declined notably. It is worth mentioning that based on the project information tracked by SMM, the proportion of shared energy storage projects increased markedly. Currently, problems of low utilization

[SMM PV News] RayGen Deploys 1 MW Solar and Thermal Storage System in Brazil
Melbourne-based RayGen has fully commissioned a 1 MW concentrated solar and long-duration thermal energy storage system in Petrolina, Brazil, in partnership with Axia Energia. The facility utilizes RayGen's 'PV Ultra' technology, which uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight onto modules while capturing heat in a water-based storage system. This design achieves a 70% round-trip efficiency. Axia is testing the technology for potential large-scale deployment to help power 'AI factories.' RayGen already operates a commercial facility in Australia and is currently advancing a 200 MW/1,200 MWh utility-scale project in South Australia.

[SMM PV News] Middle East 'LNG' Strikes Impact PPA and BESS Economics
Strikes on Middle East 'LNG' infrastructure are affecting long-term 'PPAs' and battery energy storage system ('BESS') economics, according to Swiss firm Pexapark. Lead analyst Nicolas Briet noted that supply risks from Qatar have tightened European fundamentals, visibly impacting 'PPA' valuations. A 10-year solar pay-as-produced 'PPA' in the UK saw a 19% fair value increase. Despite improved economics, 'PPA' transactions may remain slow due to buyer caution and rising equipment costs linked to higher energy prices. Conversely, 'BESS' is directly benefiting from increased intraday volatility and wider price spreads. Pexapark also reported 30 new 'PPA' deals in February 2026, the highest monthly volume since February 2024.
