BYD stated on the interactive platform that BYD DM-i is a dual-motor series-parallel architecture designed based on the electric vehicle platform, which realises the decoupling (disconnection) of the engine and wheels. It said this technology is both reasonable and legal.
In EV mode, the engine can be started flexibly, and fuel vapour can be desorbed freely (pumping away the oil vapour in the carbon tank). Coupled with the collaborative strategy of multiple control units and in-depth research on the characteristics of carbon tanks, BYD has independently developed the fuel vapor emission control technology for atmospheric fuel tanks, which can meet the evaporative emission regulations and standards.
This technology realises that before the carbon tank is saturated, the PHEV will automatically start the engine even if the vehicle is used in EV mode for a long time, and the problem can be solved in about 4 minutes, without increasing fuel consumption or noise, and can also complete fuel vapour desorption, vehicle power generation and engine maintenance.
This technology is both reasonable and legal, the company said.
