Inventories of Lead Ingots at Domestic Primary Lead Smelters Grew In April and Will Accumulate Further in May
Inventories of lead ingots at domestic primary lead smelters stood at 15,000 mt in April, an increase of 6,400 mt from the previous month.
While the supply of domestic primary lead smelters declined slightly in April, demand was also poor amid the off-season for lead-acid batteries. During the Labour Day holiday, downstream battery companies shut down for 3-5 days, lacking the enthusiasm for raw material stockpiling. Hence, the inventory at primary lead smelters increased slightly after the holidays.
Entering May, there are still several primary lead smelters planning to undertake maintenance, while secondary refined lead smelters will recover from maintenance. In this case, lead ingot inventories at smelters are expected to accumulate further.
