SMM News: in recent years, with the stricter environmental protection policies at home and abroad, the upward trend of the new energy vehicle market is prominent. Among them, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have been paid more and more attention and support by more and more countries because of their advantages such as high cleanliness, high energy density and long service life, and triggered a new upsurge of investment by automobile companies.

The support of various countries has been strengthened, and the prospect of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is good.

In order to make up for the deficiency of poor energy storage and reduce the dependence on imported oil and gas, more and more countries are raising hydrogen energy to the level of energy strategy, and have formulated a clear route map for the development of hydrogen energy and fuel cell vehicles. The specific strategies and plans are as follows (part):

With the joint promotion of various countries, the development of hydrogen energy vehicles has entered an accelerated stage. According to statistics, as of June 2020, the cumulative global sales of fuel cell vehicles are about 27000, with the United States, South Korea and China in the leading position. Among them, driven by various favorable policies, China has produced more than 7000 fuel cell vehicles and built 72 hydrogenation stations by June 2020.

According to the hydrogen Energy Commission, the global number of fuel cell passenger vehicles is expected to reach 1 million to 1.5 million by 2030. By 2050, hydrogen will be able to meet 18% of the global terminal energy needs, and the global number of hydrogen fuel cell passenger vehicles will reach 400 million, accounting for 1% of the total.

The layout of car companies is accelerated, and capital attention is on the rise.

With the tilt of policy and the good market prospect, the layout of domestic and foreign automobile companies began to accelerate, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles gradually changed from research and development to commercial mass production.

According to public data, Hyundai launched a mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell car named ix FCEV, in 2013. The new generation of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle NEXO was launched in 2018. Data show that from January to June 2020, Hyundai NEXO sales increased significantly, reaching 2884 vehicles, which made a great contribution to the overall sales improvement of hydrogen fuel vehicles in South Korea.

Toyota has been developing fuel cell vehicles for more than 20 years. Although it started early, the business progress has been slow due to the pressure of material costs and obstacles to the construction of hydrogenation infrastructure. In 2014, Toyota launched its first hydrogen-producing fuel cell car, the Mirai, which began to speed up its commercialization process. At present, about 10,000 Mirai cars have been sold worldwide.

In addition to Toyota and Hyundai, Honda and Daimler were also involved in the research and development of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles earlier. Honda launched its hydrogen fuel cell model CLARITY, in 2015 and Daimler launched the new hydrogen fuel pool GLC-CELL concept car in 2017, both of which are now in mass production. In July, BMW announced that it would begin small-scale production of i Hydrogen NEXT hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in 2022.

With the acceleration of industrialization in the world, the research and development and launch of domestic hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are gradually heating up. Among them, SAIC Group, as an early domestic enterprise to expand fuel cell vehicles, has a number of mass production models, such as SAIC Chase FCV80 fuel cell wide-body light passenger car, Roewe 950 fuel cell car, Shenwo fuel cell bus. In 2019, SAIC Chase also launched the hydrogen fuel cell MPV model G20 FC. In addition to SAIC, car companies such as Guangzhou Automobile, Great Wall and Chang'an have also begun to take action in this field. Great Wall Motor was involved in hydrogen energy in 2016 and directly invested 450 million yuan to set up Weipotential Energy Technology Co., Ltd. in 2019, used in hydrogen energy and fuel cell technology and product research and development. According to the plan, Great Wall's first hydrogen-fueled vehicle platform will be launched within this year. GAC launched its first hydrogen fuel cell passenger car, the Aion LX Fuel Cell, on its 2020 Technology Day. It is understood that the new car will begin demonstration operation within this year.

The favorable policy tendency and the accelerated pace of commercialization of car companies make hydrogen fuel cell vehicles gradually concerned by the capital market. It is reported that Yihuatong (which focuses on the research and development and industrialization of hydrogen fuel cell engine system technology), which landed on the Kechuang board on Aug. 10, opened at 260 yuan per share on the first day of trading, up 239% from the offering price (76.65 yuan per share). The market capitalization once soared to 14.2 billion yuan. On August 25, Lu Bingbing, general manager of Jethydrogen Technology, a hydrogen fuel cell subsidiary of SAIC, also said in an interview with Galaxy that the company also has separate listing plans in the future and is currently under preparation. "not only the automobile industry, but the entire energy industry and the investment community are optimistic about the development prospects of fuel cell vehicles." Ye Shengji, chief engineer and deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, said.

The challenge remains the same, and industry coordination is the key.

Although there is a tuyere in the market, from a volume point of view, hydrogen-fueled vehicles still have a long way to go in terms of popularity and commercialization. Especially for the late start of the Chinese market, it is even more difficult.

Zhong Zhihua, vice president and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, pointed out that at present, the industrialization of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in China is faced with high fuel cell costs and storage and transportation costs, lagging construction of hydrogen filling stations, leading enterprises to be formed, lack of vehicle system innovation and other problems, and the industrial chain is relatively weak. "because hydrogen energy and fuel cell vehicles are in the early stage of development, there are many bottlenecks and the industrial chain is fragile, any place 'stuck in the neck' will lead to breathing difficulties or even difficult to survive, so it needs the coordinated development of the whole industrial chain." Zhong Zhihua said.

For individual enterprises, in the face of immature market, huge R & D investment and many uncertainties, cooperative development is also a better way to win further development and reduce costs and investment risks. To this end, since the beginning of this year, we have seen a lot of news about cooperation in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. In April, Daimler announced a joint venture with Volvo and plans to start mass production of heavy fuel cell commercial vehicles for long-distance transportation after 2025. In June, Toyota, FAW, Dongfeng, Guangzhou Automobile, BAIC and Yihuatong signed contracts to jointly establish Joint fuel Cell system Research and Development (Beijing) Co., Ltd. It is understood that the new company's main business is to carry out research and development of fuel cell systems for commercial vehicles in China and is expected to be officially established in Beijing in 2020.

At present, the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle industry is in an important window period of development, facing many challenges, and there is also a lot of space. This not only requires cooperation among industries, but also requires relevant departments to carry out strategic planning and top-level design in this field, define objectives, organize and coordinate superior resources, and jointly promote the benign and rapid development of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle industrialization.
