SHANGHAI, Aug 23 (SMM) – Steelmakers in the centre and east of top steelmaking hub of Tangshan in Hebei province have been ordered to deepen their production cuts during CST 22:00 August 22 to CST 12:00 August 25, in anticipation of poor pollutant diffusion conditions, according to the notice from the city government.
This came on top of the city’s smog-control plan for August, and followed the intensification of production curbs in the central Tangshan during August 18-21.
Between late Thursday night and Sunday noon, all but one of the sintering machines at the northern plant of Tangshan Steel are required to stop operation, while others in Lubei, Kaiping, Fengnan, Guye districts and Luanzhou and Qian’an cities have to cut capacity by at least 50%.
Steelmakers across those regions are also ordered to halve the number of transport vehicles.
Coke plants are required to suspend coal feeding and coke producing from late night to noon during that period.
