SHANGHAI, May 15 (SMM) – Low-grade nickel pig iron (NPI) plants in Linyi city, Shandong province, were required to halve their production from mid-May, in response to the province's regulations on safe production across its 28 industrial sectors that were scheduled for completion in the first half of 2018, SMM learned.

SMM expects the cut to last for a month. Industries such as steel, construction materials and chemicals will be affected.

Linyi's output of low-grade NPI in April accounted for 8% domestically, and about 1% of China's total NPI production, according to an SMM survey.
