SHANGHAI, Jul. 28 (SMM) – Motive battery prices in China should post growth in August due largely to pick-up in demand in peak season, SMM anticipates.
China Motive Battery Makers Ramp up Production for Peak Season, SMM Reports
“High temperature since mid-July quickens motive battery replacement and this accelerates digest of stocks at distributors. Also, supply turns tight in some regions.”, SMM explains.
Take 48v12Ah battery as an example. Only a small number of distributors still hold stocks built in June and thus they quote 48v12Ah battery prices as low as 240-250 yuan. However, such battery prices have increased to 260-280 yuan or even 290-300 yuan as of currently. The wholesale prices also rose by 20-30 yuan from late June.
Growing costs are also behind the price hike in August, SMM adds.
Recently, spot lead prices continue gains, which adds costs to battery producers. In Jiangxi, average price of lead polar plates (container formation) used in motive batteries was 15,450 yuan per tonne on June 30 while hiked to 16,050 yuan per tonne on July 27. This grows costs by 7.7 yuan for 48v12Ah battery producers.
