Secondary lead producers in China saw their profits up modestly in this past week due to falling scrap battery prices, SMM understood.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 20 (SMM) – Secondary lead producers in China saw their profits up modestly in this past week due to falling scrap battery prices, SMM understood.

Average price of scrap automobile batteries (white shell) and motive batteries stood at 6,690 yuan per tonne and 7,210 yuan per tonne, respectively, down 155 yuan per tonne and 115 yuan per tonne, on a weekly basis. This cut costs by 170-260 yuan per tonne for secondary lead smelters.

Despite of rises in profits, many producers still remain idled in Henan, Shandong and Hebei currently because of environmental protection crackdowns. As a result, secondary lead supply tightened.
