SHANGHAI, Jun. 4 (SMM) – The average operating rate at major Chinese lead-acid battery producers rose 2.34 percentage points in April, up from March’s average of 58.42%, showed by Shanghai Metals Market survey.

The SMM survey found that utilization rates both at motive power and backup battery producers rose in April to 51.11% and 70.05%, up by 4.28 and 2.67 percentage points, respectively.

However, production at start-up battery producers was down slightly in April, falling to 65.54% from March’s average of 63.94%. The decline was due mainly to falling output of automobiles and low demand for replacement in April, according to the survey.
