Production at rare earth producers increased rapidly in Baotou city during the first two months of 2014, Baotou Evening reported today.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 21 (SMM) – Production at rare earth producers increased rapidly in Baotou city during the first two months of 2014, Baotou Evening reported today.

Average operating rate at major 34 rare earth producers in Baotou reached 88.2% during January and February. Output of single rare earth metals totaled 181.4 tonnes, up 28.3% year-on-year.

The strong year-on-year output growth, however, was due mainly to low base during the same period of last year. Sluggish prices resulted in weak production at local rare earth producers last year, the report said.
