Jun 01, SANTIAGO (Dow Jones)- Global diversified miner BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP) will send the president of its Manganese CSG division, Peter Beaven, to head its base metals division in Chile, the company said Tuesday.

The base metals division's former president, Diego Hernandez, left his post at BHP to take over as chief executive of Chilean state copper giant Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile earlier this month.

Beaven will start his duties as president of the base metals division Nov. 1. Until then, Ivan Arriagada will continue as acting president.

"Peter's wide experiences across a range of regions and businesses will be of great value in the leadership of base metals...he will also work enhancing BHP Billiton's reputation of being Chile's best partner," said the president of the miner's non ferrous division, Andrew Mackenzie.

In Chile, BHP controls and operates the massive Escondida copper mine, and wholly owns the Spence and Cerro Colorado mines.
