Chile’s Mining Costs Top World Peers

Chile’s mining cost was the highest in the world in 2015, although most companies slashed cost and postponed many projects, wenhua.com reported.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 22 (SMM) - Chile’s mining cost was the highest in the world in 2015, although most companies slashed cost and postponed many projects, wenhua.com reported.

Chile’s mining cost was 5.4% higher than global average last year, according to the Chilean Mining Ministry.

Cash cost of Chilean copper mines slid to $1.3 per pound, compared to the average level of ¢82-$1.05 per pound in other countries.

The country’s mining cost of copper mines dropped to $2.16 per pound last year, down 3.5% from 2014’s $2.24 per pound.
