BEIJING, May 11 -- China's retail sales increased by 18.5 percent year-on-year in April, totaling 1.151 trillion yuan ($168.60 billion), the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced today.
The rise is 3.7 percentage points higher than the same month of last year, and 0.5 percentage point higher than March's 18 percent growth.
Retail sales in the first four months of this year rose 18.1 percent year-on-year to 4.788 trillion yuan. The growth rate is 3.1 percentage points higher than the same period of 2009, and 0.2 percentage point higher than that in the first quarter of this year, the NBS said.
