On April 14, the solid-state battery technology research center jointly established by Honeycomb Energy Global Lithium Power Innovation Center and Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences was officially established in Wuxi and held the unveiling ceremony of the contract. It is reported that the research center is expected to make use of the advantages of advanced solid-state battery material technology of Ningbo Materials Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the leading R & D strength of Honeycomb Energy to quickly break through the key technology of "sticking neck" and promote the landing of solid-state battery technology.
According to public data, Honeycomb Energy, founded in December 2016, is a new energy technology company specializing in automotive power battery research and development, trial production, test assembly, mass production and raw material production.
Under the background of carbon peak and carbon neutralization, the development of new energy vehicle industry is becoming more and more hot, and from the current market reaction, since 2021, compared with liquid lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries with high energy density and high safety are getting louder and louder. Many well-known enterprises have also begun to layout solid-state battery technology. On January 9, Lai announced the total energy 150kWh solid-state battery on Nio Day and announced that it would be mass produced in 2022. On March 15, Volkswagen said on its first "Power Day" that the ultimate form of automobile power battery in the future will be solid-state battery. On April 9, Ganfeng Lithium Industry announced that it plans to invest 2.2 billion yuan to build a project of ultra-thin lithium anode material for high specific energy solid-state battery.
As a report by IDTechEx shows, the market size of solid-state battery is expected to exceed 6 billion US dollars by 2030, which shows that the development of solid-state battery in the future is unlimited. At present, Honeycomb Energy has made a breakthrough in the research and development of semi-solid battery technology, taking the lead in launching the first "no fire, self-healing" new cell based on cobalt-free material system-jelly battery.
According to the plan, Honeycomb Energy plans to apply demonstration solid-state batteries with an energy density of 350-500Wh/kg in production vehicles by 2025.
