At the 11th edition of India Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2025, the Union Minister presented a comprehensive four-pronged strategy aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and advancing India’s clean energy ambitions.

The first focus area is innovation. The Minister emphasized that innovation must be at the core of India’s energy transformation, particularly when it comes to research and development. He pointed out that investing ₹1 lakh crore in R&D within India could deliver returns equivalent to significantly higher investments in developed countries due to India’s lower operational and production costs. This positions India as a competitive hub for clean energy innovation.

The second element of the strategy involves strengthening infrastructure for electric vehicles. To support faster EV adoption, the Minister proposed a coexistence model where both charging stations and battery swapping facilities are developed in tandem. He encouraged companies to form partnerships and work collaboratively to build a robust and affordable electric mobility ecosystem that meets the needs of a diverse consumer base.
The third point highlighted the need for diversification and self-reliance in supply chains. The Minister stressed the importance of reducing dependence on any single region for critical materials used in clean energy technologies. He recommended exploring new sources for raw materials and investing in emerging technologies to build more resilient, self-sufficient supply chains that align with the national goal of Atma Nirbharta (self-reliance).
The final aspect of the approach is the need for a holistic view of the entire energy value chain. This includes everything from sourcing critical minerals and manufacturing battery cell components to advancing energy storage systems and implementing effective recycling processes. The Minister underlined the importance of scaling up operations across all these areas to support the broader goal of achieving 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and ensuring 24×7 availability of clean power.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, while virtually addressing the India Energy Storage Week 2025, said in a statement, “As India transitions to a cleaner and more sustainable future, the energy sector will be at the forefront of driving the country forward in terms of clean energy and renewable energy resources. The Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision has been reflected in the nation’s achievements over the last decade, during which there was a remarkable 4,000% increase in our installed solar capacity over a decade. Our overall renewable energy capacity currently stands at a robust 227 gigawatts, we are likely the first G20 country to have achieved the goals of the nationally determined contributions we set out to accomplish in the Paris Agreement.”
He continued, “In Jammu and Kashmir, there is a Pali village that stands out as India’s first neutral panchayat. This village uses solar energy, prioritizes energy efficiency, and focuses on waste reduction. They have truly set a remarkable example that paves the way for a sustainable future. Over the last decade, we have significantly increased our manufacturing capacity. Today, our solar photovoltaic module capacity has grown nearly 38 times, while our solar photovoltaic cell capacity has expanded 21 times.”

He also added, “The conference that is being held today will certainly help us in taking forward our cleaning of the cities and environment, reducing pollution level, particularly in the cities, and your felicitation today evening of women in energy is truly very heartwarming”.

IESW 2025 served as a vital platform to discuss these future goals and brought together over 200 global energy leaders, industry stakeholders, and policymakers. The event featured more than 300 innovative products spanning electric vehicles, solar energy, green hydrogen, battery technologies, and charging infrastructure. It also witnessed over seven new factory or product announcements from leading Indian manufacturers. Advanced energy storage solutions were a key highlight, with technologies on display including Lithium-ion, Lithium-sulfur, Sodium-ion batteries, and several other futuristic systems from around the world, reinforcing India’s position as a growing leader in clean energy innovation.
