On February 4, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) announced that the U.S. domestic photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing capacity has surpassed 50GW. If these factories operate at full capacity, they will be able to meet all domestic demand for solar products. This achievement is a key step in establishing a PV supply chain in the U.S., which will end its dependence on foreign companies and can support employment for domestic workers.

According to SEIA’s supply chain data, companies plan to add 56GW of solar cell capacity, 24GW of wafer capacity, and 13GW of silicon ingot capacity in the U.S. Currently, the manufacturing capacity for solar trackers has already exceeded 80GW.

In 2020, SEIA set the goal of reaching 50GW of solar manufacturing capacity in the U.S. by 2030, covering all stages of the solar supply chain, including modules, solar cells, silicon ingots and wafers, polysilicon, trackers, and PV inverters.
