Avantus project in Kern County

California's Kern County has issued a Notice of Preparation (NOP) under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to advance Avantus' Buttonbush solar and energy storage project. The project includes a 2GW photovoltaic facility and a 2GW/8GWh battery storage system, which will be connected to the CAISO grid via PG&E's substation. Commercial operation is expected to begin in 2026 and 2028. Avantus has previously developed two solar+storage projects in Kern County, with a total storage capacity of 4GWh, which were sold to utility company AES last year.
