PV Module Production Schedules Still Declining, Solar Cell Prices Continue to Fall

Published: May 23, 2024 10:48
Solar cell prices have recently fallen and are difficult to stabilize. Current prices for high-efficiency PERC182 solar cells (23.2% efficiency and above) are 0.30-0.32 yuan/W; PERC210 solar cells are around 0.33-0.34 yuan/W; Topcon182 solar cells (24.7% efficiency and above) are around 0.29-0.32 yuan/W; Topcon210RN solar cells are 0.36-0.39 yuan/W.

Solar Cells

Prices

Solar cell prices have recently fallen and are difficult to stabilize. Current prices for high-efficiency PERC182 solar cells (23.2% efficiency and above) are 0.30-0.32 yuan/W; PERC210 solar cells are around 0.33-0.34 yuan/W; Topcon182 solar cells (24.7% efficiency and above) are around 0.29-0.32 yuan/W; Topcon210RN solar cells are 0.36-0.39 yuan/W.

Output

Recently, some integrated module manufacturers have continued to reduce solar cell production, and specialized solar cell manufacturers have also implemented production cuts. Chinese companies are facing poor overseas sales of solar cells, leading to gradual production cuts from the end of this month to the next.

Inventory

Battery makers' n-type inventory days are 5-15 days, while p-type inventory days are close to two months, with current supply and demand nearly balanced.

Modules

Prices

In the current module market, mainstream transaction prices for centralized projects are PERC182mm (0.78-0.86 yuan/W), PERC210mm (0.8-0.87 yuan/W), N-type 182mm (0.8-0.89 yuan/W), and N-type 210mm (0.84-0.9 yuan/W). Due to demand and raw material impacts, module prices have generally decreased by 2-3 cents, with mainstream transaction prices for N182 falling to 0.85-0.86 yuan/W.

Output

In May, several companies adjusted their production schedules to varying degrees, and the overall market actual output is expected to decrease. Some companies still have plans to reduce production in June, with expected production schedules flat or lower compared to May.

Inventory

Current module inventory remains within a controllable range, with downstream demand rising slowly, affecting inventory digestion speed.

PV Film

Prices:

EVA/POE for PV:

Current domestic EVA for PV transactions have further declined. For detailed prices of PV-grade EVA, please consult analysts. Cable-grade EVA prices remain at 11000-11200 yuan/mt; prices of EVA for foaming continue to stay within the 10800-11000 yuan/mt range. Prices of C4 PV-grade POE temporarily remain at $2550-2650/mt, and C8 POE temporarily remain at $2650-2750/mt.

PV Film:

Current mainstream prices for 420g transparent EVA film are 6.51-6.72 yuan/sqm, 420g white EVA film are 7.35-7.56 yuan/sqm, 380g EPE film are 7.98-8.06 yuan/sqm, and 380g POE film are 10.18-10.45 yuan/sqm. Prices have not changed.

Output

Current PV film production pace is stable. Some granule factories undertook maintenance this month, so attention should be paid to the potential decrease in monthly total output.

Inventory

Current PV film granule inventory has slightly increased, with granule procurement mainly based on needs, and PV film inventory is being consumed.

Solar Inverter

Prices

This week's solar inverter price range: 20kw (0.12-0.18 yuan/W), 50kw (0.12-0.17 yuan/W), 110kw (0.11-0.16 yuan/W). Low-end price of solar inverter slightly decreased, and the transaction prices declined.

Output

Recently, domestic centralized procurement demand has supported super power model orders, and domestic and foreign downstream procurement demand is gradually recovering, with enterprise production schedules steadily increasing. The European Q2 peak season is approaching, and solar inverter inventory is gradually improving.

PV Glass

Prices

3.2mm single-layer coated: 3.2mm single-layer coated PV glass is quoted at 26.5-27.5 yuan/sqm, with stable prices.

3.2mm double-layer coated: 3.2mm double-layer coated PV glass is quoted at 27.5-28.5 yuan/sqm, with stable prices.

2.0mm single-layer coated: 2.0mm single-layer coated PV glass is quoted at 17.5-18.5 yuan/sqm, with stable prices.

2.0mm double-layer coated: 2.0mm double-layer coated PV glass is quoted at 18.5-19.5 yuan/sqm, with stable prices.

Output

Since May, a 1000t/d kiln in Hebei, a 1200t/d kiln in Yunnan, and a 1200t/d kiln in Guangxi were commenced, leading to an overall increase in supply.

Inventory

As the end of the month approaches, market transactions are quiet, and downstream enterprises are waiting for new orders in June before purchasing again, leading to a slight increase in glass enterprise inventory.

[SMM PV News] Polish Firm ELQ Announces €2.5 Billion Renewable Investment in Ukraine
ELQ has announced an investment of up to €2.5 billion to build up to 2 GW of new energy infrastructure in Ukraine. Supported by US and Arab partners, construction of the initial installations will begin in Q2 2026. Sołtysiak stated the company refuses to wait for the war to end, aiming to actively participate in the first phase of rebuilding Ukraine's heavily damaged power grid. The initiative aligns with broader recovery efforts, including a February 2026 World Bank estimate placing Ukraine's decade-long reconstruction costs at $588 billion, and a July 2025 EBRD mechanism to mobilize €1.5 billion for new renewables. Through its newly registered subsidiary, ELQ UKRAINE, the firm plans to supply autonomous energy to critical social infrastructure like schools and hospitals.

[SMM PV News] 'SMA Solar' Reports Slight Revenue Decline and Widening Losses for Fiscal Year 2025
'SMA Solar Technology AG' confirmed its preliminary fiscal year 2025 results, reporting a 0.9% year-on-year revenue decline to €1.516 billion and widening losses amid difficult market conditions. Including one-off effects, 'EBITDA' fell to a negative €65.4 million, while 'EBIT' losses more than doubled to negative €188.2 million. The downturn was heavily driven by the 'Home & Business Solutions' segment, which suffered from €122.6 million in inventory writedowns, falling prices, and weak demand. In contrast, the 'Large Scale & Project Solutions' division saw revenue grow nearly 8% to €1.268 billion, recording a profit of €210.8 million. Looking ahead, 'SMA' confirmed its 2026 guidance, projecting revenue between €1.475 billion and €1.675 billion.

[SMM PV News] Austria's Solar Market Slows Down with 1.6 GW Added in 2025
New figures from Austria's energy regulator, 'E-Control', reveal the country installed 1,634 MW of new 'PV' capacity in 2025, a 22% decline from 2024, bringing its cumulative capacity to 9.9 GW. 'PV Austria' warned that annual additions must consistently hit 2 GW to reach the nation's 100% renewable electricity goal by 2030. Industry experts blame the slowdown on the government's early abolition of the 'VAT' exemption for small rooftop systems, 'stop-and-go' funding policies, and grid expansion delays. To revive the market, installers are urgently calling for streamlined storage regulations, proportionate fire safety rules, and dynamic grid fees to support a combined solar-plus-storage approach.
