In May, the capacity utilisation rates of mines in Jilin increased significantly month-on-month, mainly due to the resumption of production at some local beneficiation plants and some mines after safety inspections.

According to SMM survey, a private mine in Yanbian area stated that thanks to previous mining, its beneficiation plant had started production in May, and its monthly concentrates output was about 40,000-50,000 mt. Its pelletising plant planned to restart production in mid-June.

However, due to the recent weak concentrates prices, low grade of ROM and high concentrate ratio, the operating cost of iron ore concentrates reached as high as more than 800 yuan/mt (dry basis, including tax). The mine thus lacked interest in selling goods.

The output at a mine of a state-owned steel mill in Jilin also increased. Under the influence of various factors, the output of the mine decreased previously, and it ramped up production in May.
