China's magnesium powder output stood at 6,000 mt in January, down 2% MoM. YTD output through January totalled 6,000 mt.

SHANGHAI, Feb 9 (SMM) - China's magnesium powder output stood at 6,000 mt in January, down 2% MoM. YTD output through January totalled 6,000 mt.

In January, the domestic magnesium powder market remained relatively stable. Due to the impact of the CNY holidays, the output of some magnesium powder companies declined. It is understood from the producers that the relatively high price of magnesium has diminished the demand from downstream steel mills. The market orders failed to pick up noticeably post-CNY holidays.

But considering the weather will get warmer and the downstream production resumption will progress, magnesium powder market is expected to pick up down the road. In February, the output is estimated at roughly 7,000 mt.

【SMM Magnesium Flash】On September 18th, Latrobe Magnesium applied to the Australian Securities Exchange and received approval to suspend trading, pending a major financing announcement. The suspension will continue until the financing details are announced or trading resumes on September 22nd. This move indicates that the company is advancing substantial capital raising to provide financial support for its magnesium project construction. If the financing is successfully implemented, it is expected to accelerate the production process of its 50,000-ton annual magnesium plant in South Carolina, USA, and its demonstration plant in Australia, providing a new supply source for the western magnesium supply chain.
