As the first car company in the world to stop producing fuel vehicles, BYD (002594) is speeding up the construction of battery capacity and promoting the overall electrification of the automobile business, relying on the deep accumulation of battery technology.
According to news from the Zhejiang Xianju County Investment Promotion Center, Taizhou City and Xianju County signed a strategic cooperation agreement with BYD on April 3, with the annual production of 22GWh new energy blade battery located in Xianju, which is one of the manufacturing projects with the largest single investment in Taizhou in recent years.
The battery network learned that the project covers an area of more than 1500 mu and is located in Zhangdian block, an industrial new city in the eastern part of the economic development zone of Xianju County. it is planned that the first production line will be completed and put into production in the first half of 2023, and all fixed assets investment will be completed by the end of June 2024.
It is reported that BYD's business layout covers electronics, automotive, new energy, rail transit and many other fields, has a complete industrial chain and strong R & D, production capacity, and the global market share of new energy vehicles reaches 11%. It is also the second largest company in China in terms of power battery installation.
Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD, said at the "cloud signing" ceremony that BYD has focused on manufacturing for 27 years, and in the field of new energy vehicles, with subversive technologies such as blade battery, DMI super hybrid and e-platform 3.0, BYD insists on pure electric and plug-in hybrid walking on two legs, ushering in a comprehensive explosion of technology, products and market. Since the beginning of this year, the speed of new energy vehicle reform is beyond imagination, and it has become an important track to promote industrial transformation and stabilize economic growth.
In addition to the landing of the Xianju project, in recent week, BYD has also reported new developments in investment in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province and Guiyang, Guizhou Province:
On April 1, BYD signed an investment cooperation agreement with the people's Government of Guiyang City. According to the agreement, the two sides will carry out in-depth cooperation in the new power battery industry project and the production line of the PACK plant, but the specific capacity construction has not been announced.
According to public data, in May 2021, the blade battery project of 10GWh with an annual production capacity of 5 billion invested by BYD in Guiyang has been put into production. Among the four production lines, two production lines supply BYD's "Han" series models, one production line supplies BYD's "dolphin" series models, and one production line supplies BYD's upcoming new models. At the end of 2021, BYD Guiyang Power Battery Project added two new production lines, and the annual output increased by 5GWH.
On March 31, BYD Power Battery Yancheng Base Phase II project "Cloud signing" was held in Yancheng. According to the "notice after approval of Construction Engineering Design of Yancheng Fudi Battery Co., Ltd." issued by Sheyang County Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, BYD Yancheng project is mainly responsible for the manufacture and R & D of core products such as new energy batteries and related supporting industries, and the project is divided into two phases, one of which produces 15GWh power batteries annually, with a total investment of 7.5 billion yuan, and plans to be completed and put into production in May 2022; the second phase will build 15GWh according to market demand.
According to the latest data released by BYD, the total installed capacity of power batteries and storage batteries for new energy vehicles in March was about 5.353GWh, and the total installed capacity in the first quarter was about 14.738GWh.
According to data released by SNE Research, a South Korean research institution, the number of batteries installed in electric vehicles worldwide reached 53.5GWh from January to February in 2022, an increase of more than 100% year on year. Among them, BYD ranks third in the world in terms of vehicle load, reaching 6.4GWh, an increase of 256.8% over the same period last year, and the highest growth rate among TOP10 enterprises in the global electric vehicle battery load from January to February.
