The blade battery may be equipped with Tesla's new car! Following the news that BYD won the order for Tesla 10GWh power battery on October 22, 2021, there are new developments in the cooperation between BYD and Tesla. According to recent media reports, Tesla Model 2 is expected to be officially released in 2022 or 2023, with a starting price of $25000 (about 160000 yuan).

The report further pointed out that with regard to the naming of Tesla's new car, it may also be Model C or Model Q, the standard Volkswagen ID.3 and other models. "Model 2 will be equipped with a new battery that is stronger, safer and cheaper, that is, a BYD blade battery."

Tesla's new car has long been planned.

Tesla CEO Musk revealed in 2020 that he would launch Tesla's entry-level model within three years. "it has not been officially named. It is often referred to as' Tesla Model 2', and some people have proposed the name 'Model C', but this is not the final name."

It is reported that Tesla's new car is positioned under Model 3 and changes the auto market with a target entry price of $25000.

Zhu Xiaotong, president of Tesla China, said in an interview in February 2021 that Tesla plans to complete the whole process of design, development and production of a model in China, and has launched an environmental assessment of the project.

In the environmental assessment report, it is pointed out that the Shanghai Tesla Super Factory will increase the production capacity of Model 3, Model Y and related derivative models. According to the market, the "related derivative model" refers to Tesla's new car, the Model 2.

"at present, the research and development of Tesla's new car is highly confidential, and the name, launch time and specific price of the model are still unknown."

Multi-party competition among battery suppliers

As early as August 2021, Musk said at the second quarterly report of that year that Tesla will gradually switch to the scheme of lithium iron phosphate battery in the future. In terms of battery composition, 2/3 of Tesla batteries will use lithium iron phosphate in the future.

Also in early August 2021, market participants revealed that BYD would supply Tesla with lithium iron phosphate blade batteries from the second quarter of 2022, and said that the Tesla model (which may refer to the Model 2) equipped with "blade batteries" had entered the C-sample testing phase.

Some media further pointed out: "the rumors of cooperation between Tesla and BYD are almost announced by leftover officials." To the market rumors, BYD replied: "No comment."

Of course, it is also possible for Tesla to use lithium iron phosphate batteries from the Ningde era: on October 29, 2021, several people familiar with the matter revealed that Tesla had ordered 45GWh lithium iron phosphate batteries with China's leading power battery company Ningde Times for 2022 sales plans, mainly for Model 3 and Model Y models.

According to Tesla's official information, both Model 3 and Model Y with lithium iron phosphate batteries are standard battery life versions, with the former having a battery capacity of 55 degrees (kWh), and the latter having a battery capacity of 60 degrees. Based on this preliminary calculation, 45GWh's battery order will correspond to nearly 800000 cars.

Sources also revealed that in addition to booking 45GWh batteries from Ningde Times, Tesla also plans to make additional orders. "the two sides are already in negotiations."

Guoxuan high-tech is one of Tesla's options. On December 20, 2021, Guoxuan Hi-Tech announced that GOTION,INC. (hereinafter referred to as "Guoxuan"), an overseas wholly owned grandson company, had recently signed a "Strategic supply and Localization Agreement" for a large listed automobile company in the United States, and the two sides hoped to reach strategic cooperation in the supply and procurement of lithium iron phosphate batteries.

According to the agreement, the car company is expected to purchase no less than 200GWh batteries from Guoxuan between 2023 and 2028.

Tesla is one of the few car companies that can "eat" 200GWh lithium iron phosphate batteries. However, since Tesla's new car will be produced in the Shanghai super factory, it is unlikely that the lithium iron phosphate battery of Guoxuan Hi-Tech will supply Tesla's new car.

Yi Wei Li Neng is also one of Tesla's options. Yiwei lithium is likely to be supplied to Tesla, which is considered by the market to be a 4680 cylindrical battery.

Summary

If Tesla's new car sells for only US $25000, it will pose a major threat to the new car-building forces and traditional car companies, and many brands, such as Nezha, Weimar, and other brands that focus on less than 200000, will have to face Tesla.

For power battery enterprises, just as the installed capacity of power batteries in the Ningde era continued to increase after entering the Tesla battery supply chain, other battery enterprises that have newly entered the ranks of Tesla battery suppliers are expected to obtain more markets. one is the direct market matched by Tesla, and the other is the market driven by brand effect.

Tesla, a "catfish", has moved the wind and clouds of the new energy automobile industry as well as the power battery industry.
