SMM survey: what kind of metal do you like most in 2022?
Nissan plans to build new battery recycling plants in the United States and Europe by the end of fiscal year 2025, Japanese media reported on December 16. Nissan hopes to recycle batteries and re-use them in electric vehicles at a time when rare metal prices are rising, in order to help reduce the cost of electric vehicle production, the report said.
It is reported that the new battery recycling plant will be the company's first battery recycling facility outside Japan, but Nissan did not specify which European country the plant will be built in. Nissan had no immediate comment.
Last month, Nissan announced its electrification plan, promising to spend Y2tn ($17.53 billion) to improve the electrification of cars over five years to catch up with competitors in electric vehicles. Nissan also said it would launch 23 electric vehicles in 2030, including 15 electric vehicles.
Nissan aims to increase the global share of electric-driven models under its Nissan and Infiniti brands to 50 per cent by fiscal year 2030 (2030.4.1-2031.3.31). By fiscal year 2026 (2026.4.1-2027.3.31), Nissan expects electric vehicles (hybrid and all-electric vehicles) to account for more than 75 per cent of its sales in Europe, more than 55 per cent of its sales in Japan and more than 40 per cent of its sales in China. In the key u.s. market, Nissan wants pure electric vehicles to account for 40% of total u.s. sales.
