There are many technical routes for cathode materials of lithium battery. at present, ternary and lithium iron phosphate stand in the center of the stage. from the aspects of performance and price, they have their own advantages and will develop in parallel for a long time in the future. many suppliers have endorsed this point of view with practical actions.
After combing the production expansion announcement of the lithium cathode industry chain in the past three months, Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily found that while many ternary material battery manufacturers vigorously develop high-performance material batteries, they are also actively developing lithium iron phosphate batteries. Specifically:
On the evening of the 14th, Xiamen Tungsten Xinneng simultaneously disclosed two production expansion plans: to invest 927 million yuan to build a project with an annual output of 100000 tons of lithium iron phosphate, and to invest 990 million yuan to build a project with an annual production capacity of 30, 000 tons of high-nickel ternary materials.
Dangsheng Technology recently announced that it will cooperate with South Korea's SK to carry out lithium iron phosphate business.
Zhongwei shares announced that 10 billion yuan will be allocated to the integration project of the annual production line of 200000 tons of iron phosphate and lithium iron phosphate materials.
These companies are deeply engaged in ternary cathode materials, although some companies have lithium iron phosphate research and development capabilities and technical reserves, but there is a certain gap between lithium iron phosphate production process and their ternary materials business.
Why are they still determined to make up for their shortcomings and choose to bet on both sides? The great potential of lithium iron phosphate battery in the energy storage market and meeting the dual needs of customers are the main reasons.
Xiamen Tungsten Xinneng said that at present, ternary materials are the mainstream direction of new energy vehicle batteries, and lithium iron phosphate has a broad space for energy storage, and occupies a certain market share in entry-level passenger cars, special-purpose vehicles, logistics vehicles, passenger cars and other market segments. In addition, the company's ternary material customers are highly coincident with lithium iron phosphate customers, and have lithium iron phosphate research and development capabilities and technical reserves, the company intends to enter the lithium iron phosphate market to further consolidate the leading position of cathode materials and enhance anti-risk ability.
Zhongwei also said that the rapid development of energy storage market makes lithium iron phosphate battery ushered in a new growth trend. Although the company is in a leading position in the field of ternary precursor materials, in order to improve the company's product system and better serve the needs of customers, the company needs to expand the product line of lithium iron phosphate materials to meet the diversified needs of existing and potential customers.
On the other hand, with the breakthrough of lithium iron phosphate battery life technology and the gradual decline of new energy vehicle subsidies, the installed capacity of lithium iron phosphate battery has continued to rise recently, and even has a trend of catching up with and surpassing the installed capacity of ternary batteries, which also drives the industrial chain into the trend of increasing production.
According to the power battery data in November, both the output and the loading capacity of lithium iron phosphate battery are higher than that of ternary battery, and the increase of the same ring ratio of lithium iron phosphate battery is higher than that of ternary battery.
However, lithium iron phosphate club is not the only battery material suppliers, a number of chemical companies have crossed the border into the lithium iron phosphate industry, including Chuanfa Dragon Python, Chuanheng shares, Xingfa Group, Yuntu Holdings, Xin Yangfeng and so on.
Among them, some companies choose to "walk on two legs". While laying out ternary cathode materials, Tianyuan shares recently announced that it plans to set up a new company to invest 2.389 billion yuan to build a project with an annual production capacity of 100000 tons of lithium iron phosphate cathode materials; Fengyuan shares also has a combination of lithium iron phosphate cathode, conventional ternary cathode and high nickel ternary cathode capacity.
It can be predicted that the market competition of lithium iron phosphate will be more and more fierce in the future.
