Cobalt-free is the future trend of the lithium battery industry. SHANGHAI, Aug 18 (SMM) - Cobalt-free is the future trend of the lithium battery industry. Fortunately, with the rapid rise of China's lithium battery sector in the past two years, significant progress has been made in the R&D of core technologies. SVOLT Energy Technology (SVOLT), a rising star in the industry, has made a surprising breakthrough: it has not only taken the lead in overcoming the technical difficulty of cobalt-free batteries, but has also realized the practical application of cobalt-free batteries in vehicles.

SVOLT's cobalt-free battery will first be installed in ORA's Cherry Cat model, which will be the world's first new energy model to use mass-produced cobalt-free batteries.

Over the years of rapid development of the lithium battery industry, "cobalt anxiety" has been the sword of Damocles hanging over the industry. The heavy reliance on imported cobalt resources has also made Chinese lithium battery enterprises feel uncomfortable. Overseas companies, represented by Tesla, have been continuously reducing the cobalt content in lithium batteries, and have reduced their cobalt usage by more than 60% in recent years. Its next-generation lithium battery products seek to further reduce the proportion of cobalt to about 3%, on top of the current 6-7%.
