SMM News: recently, Sai Microelectronics announced that the company intends to issue shares to specific objects to raise a total of no more than 2.4271198 billion yuan for 8-inch MEMS international contract production line construction projects, MEMS high-frequency communication device manufacturing process development projects, MEMS advanced packaging and testing R & D and production line construction projects and supplementary liquidity. It is reported that the total investment of the company's 8-inch MEMS international contract production line construction project is 2.59752 billion yuan, and the amount of funds to be raised is 790.5198 million yuan.
The so-called MEMS, refers to the integration of lithography, etching, thin film, LIGA, silicon micromachining, non-silicon micromachining and precision machining and other technologies of high-tech electronic and mechanical devices. MEMS, which focuses on ultra-precision machining, is a micro-device or system that integrates micro-sensors, micro-actuators, micro-mechanical structures, micro-power sources, signal processing and control circuits, high-performance electronic integrated devices, interfaces and communications.
In its "Plan for issuing A-shares to specific targets in 2020", Saiwei said that thanks to the rapid growth of markets such as communications, biomedicine, industrial science, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, mobile Internet and instrumentation, the MEMS industry has a strong momentum of development, and its terminal application products are becoming more and more abundant and diversified. China has become the largest mobile phone and automobile market in the world. However, middle and high-end sensors and sensor chips are heavily dependent on imports. The backwardness of China's MEMS industry contrasts with the strong demand of the domestic market.
According to the research of Yole Development, the global semiconductor consulting firm, the global MEMS industry market will be 11.5 billion US dollars in 2019. Considering the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the MEMS market will decline to 10.9 billion US dollars in 2020. It is expected that the MEMS market will grow to 17.7 billion US dollars by 2025, with a compound growth rate of 7.4 per cent. From the perspective of market segmentation, consumer electronics market and automotive electronics will still be the two largest application areas of MEMS, while the growth rate in the fields of communications, biomedicine and industrial science will also be considerable.
At present, Sai Microelectronics has a mature MEMS fab in Sweden, including an 8-inch production line and a 6-inch production line, of which the 6-inch production line is being upgraded to 8 inches and is expected to be completed within 2020, when all Swedish production lines will be switched to 8 inches. The company will continue to upgrade the Swedish MEMS production line, upgrading the original 6-inch production line to 8 inches on the one hand, and increasing the overall production capacity of the 8-inch production line by purchasing key equipment on the other. The Swedish MEMS production line is in the process of upgrading and expanding production while keeping the production line running, and the project is expected to be completed in 2020. Based on the 2019 production capacity data, the entire upgrade and expansion project is expected to continue to increase the production capacity of the Swedish MEMS production line by 20-30%, that is, to a level of about 6000-7000 pieces per month.
At the same time, the company is building an 8-inch MEMS fab in Beijing. The company's wholly-owned subsidiaries Selex International and the National Integrated Circuit Fund own 70% and 30% of the project company Selex Beijing, respectively. Upon completion, the fab will produce 8-inch MEMS wafers to serve global customers in downstream biomedical, communications, industrial science and consumer electronics fields. By the end of the reporting period, the construction of the factory building of the Beijing MEMS production line base is nearing completion, the main workshop and the support floor area are nearing completion, the functional systems of the power plant have been installed, the major gas stations and chemical depots have been completed, the renovation of the office floor and shift apartments has been started, the clean room has been ready, and the plant management system has started operation and commissioning and the installation and commissioning of production equipment has begun. The first phase of the Beijing 8-inch MEMS production line is expected to be completed and put into use in the third quarter of 2020.
