SHANGHAI, May 25 (SMM) – China’s crude steel production grew 7.6% to 85 million mt in April from a month earlier, to produce a year-over-year increase of 0.2%, showed data from the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) released Friday.
Worldsteel data also showed a 13% year-over-year decrease in global crude steel production for the same month. Production for the 64 countries reporting to the Worldsteel fell 6.9% from March to 137.1 million mt in April.
The industry association noted that due to the ongoing difficulties presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, many of April’s figures are estimates that may be revised with the next monthly production update.
