Handan to implement level Ⅱ smog-control measures from Sep 24

Steelmakers are required to suspend sintering and pelletising machines as well as blast furnaces

SHANGHAI, Sep 23 (SMM) – The Handan city of Hebei province, the top steelmaking hub in China, will issue a smog alert of the orange level from CST 24:00 Monday September 23, and begin to implement level Ⅱ emergency measures against heavy air pollution.

Steelmakers in the region are required to suspend sintering and pelletising machines as well as blast furnaces.

Coke plants are ordered to extend their coke production period to 36 hours, and the period of the production in a 4.3-m oven to 72 hours.

Restrictions are also imposed on calcination at carbon plants.

Outdoor construction, open-pit mining and mine rehabilitation are banned, while commodity transportation by vehicles that fail to meet National 5 and above emission standards is restricted from urban areas.
