Report: Shanghai eyes 13,000 5G base stations by end-2019

SHANGHAI, Jun 26 (SMM) – Shanghai will construct 13,000 5G base stations by the end of this year, expanding from the current 3,000, according to media reports at the 5G+ release conference held by the largest Chinese wireless carrier China Mobile on Tuesday June 25. 

The 5G base stations will cover all the city's downtown and key suburbs. 

As the first Chinese city with a trial 5G network, Shanghai will also focus on 10 key vertical industry sectors by 2021, and sponsor 1,000 projects for 5G innovative applications.

The 5G application sectors, including manufacturing, software, and information services, are expected to each generate targeted revenues of 100 billion yuan by 2021.
