Prices of low-grade silicon continued to climb on May 23

SHANGHAI, May 23 (SMM) – Some producers of silicon metal in Yunnan Dehong and Sichuan Liangshan faced power shortages, as a lack of rainfall hampered local hydropower stations, SMM learned.

The rainy season across Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, two major production regions of silicon metals, appeared to set in later this year.

Prices of low-grade silicon continued to climb on Thursday May 23, bolstered by limited spot supplies. Some producers without spot cargoes raised their port quotes for #5-series to 10,800 yuan/mt.
