Silicon plants in Yunnan shut down capacity due to power station maintenance

Four silicon plants in Nujiang of Yunnan province, one of China’s major silicon production areas, nearly halved its capacity in operation on April 23, as power supply was disrupted amid maintenance of local power stations. 

SHANGHAI, Apr 23 (SMM) – Four silicon plants in Nujiang of Yunnan province, one of China’s major silicon production areas, nearly halved its capacity in operation on April 23, as power supply was disrupted amid maintenance of local power stations. 


The maintenance is slated to last for about a week, and normal power supply will return on May 1. 


SMM assessed prices of non-oxidised 553# silicon in Kunming at 9,900-10,000 yuan/mt as of April 23, roughly unchanged for two weeks. Current prices stand at the lowest levels since late-August 2019. 


Prices of oxidised 553# silicon in Kunming were assessed at 10,300-10,400 on April 23, flat from a week ago and down from a previous high of 11,950 yuan/mt in early-March.
