Chinalco to move 190,000 mt of aluminium capacity to the south

The capacity would be transferred from Shanxi Huasheng to Heqing Yixin Aluminium, who has access to cleaner hydropower

SHANGHAI, Feb 21 (SMM) – Aluminum Corp of China (Chalco) said on Wednesday February 20 that it plans to transfer 190,000 mt of annual aluminum smelting capacity of a Shanxi-based unit to a Yunnan-based unit of its parent company, Chinalco.

The transfer is expected to be done at 950 million yuan.

The capacity would be transferred from Shanxi Huasheng to Heqing Yixin Aluminium, which has access to cleaner hydropower.

China allows aluminum smelters to move or acquire new capacity in regions that have available quotas.

[SMM Aluminum Express News] Four new locomotives, Foussein, Lanny-Ninkin, Kaporo, and Gbereakhory have entered service on Guinea's TransGuinean corridor rail line, managed by La Compagnie du TransGuinéen (CTG). Primarily built to haul high-grade iron ore from Simandou mine to Morebaya port (650 km), these Wabtec units (part of a 78-locomotive fleet) support heavy loads for faster, reliable shipments. The corridor's high-capacity infrastructure (12 stations, 206 bridges, rugged terrain adaptations) also enables transport of bauxite and other minerals, creating a multi-commodity logistics backbone that could shorten transit for landlocked neighbors (e.g., Mali) and boost regional mineral exports.
