SHFE 1709 nickel opened at RMB 84,600/mt and closed at RMB 86,000/mt, up RMB 1,240/mt or 1.46%.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 5 (SMM) – On Wednesday, SHFE 1709 nickel opened at RMB 84,600/mt and then fluctuated narrowly. During the afternoon trading, the contract advanced to RMB 86,470/mt as longs strengthened and then declined slightly. SHFE 1709 nickel closed at RMB 86,000/mt, up RMB 1,240/mt or 1.46%. Trading volumes fell 46,000 to 164,000 lots and positions rose 29,000 to 375,000.

SHFE 1705 nickel will hover at highs on Wednesday’s night trading with support at the 20-day moving average.

[SMM Nickel Flash] The SMM average price of 10-12% high-grade NPI fell 17.2 yuan/mtu WoW to 1,035.8 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, tax included), while the Indonesia NPI FOB index average price dropped 2.06 $/mtu WoW to 131.2 $/mtu. At the beginning of the week, futures hit limit-down, and nickel prices fell sharply WoW, driving the emergence of arbitrage supplies sold at low prices, leading to a significant decline in high-grade NPI prices.
