SAO PAULO (Scrap Monster): According to statistics, the pig iron exports by Brazil continued to drop during the month of August this year.
Brazil’s pig iron exports totaled 158,000 during August ’14. The total exports were up 18.1% when compared with the exports during August last year. However, the exports tumbled 36.35% from the previous month. The country’s pig iron exports had totaled 248,000 tons during the month of July this year.
The pig iron exports by the country during the initial eight months of the current year totaled 1.46 million tons. The combined eight-month export figure was down 11.4% when compared with the exports during the corresponding eight-month period in 2013.
The largest importer of Brazilian pig iron during the period from January to August this year was the US. The US imported 1.1 million tons of Brazilian pig iron, accounting for more than 75% of the total pig iron exports by the country during the period.
The second largest export destination of Brazilian pig iron was the Netherlands. The country’s total pig iron exports to the Netherlands amounted to 106,000 tons. The pig iron imports by the Netherlands from Brazil surged by 27.6% over the previous year. In third place was Taiwan with total imports of 87,000 tons, dropping by nearly 48.3% over the previous year.
