China Al Output Data Analysis in June 2012

Alumina
Data from the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA) shows that China’s alumina output in June grew 13.55% YoY, to 3.5206 million mt, while YTD output through June grew 9.76%, to 19.0621 million mt.

Aluminum
China’s primary aluminum output in June grew to 1.684 million mt, up by 7.7% YoY and 0.3% MoM. The increase reflects 700,000 mt/yr in new aluminum capacity added since May, primarily from new capacity in Jiuquan, Gansu province and restarted capacity of Guangxi Xinfa. Present operational plans at aluminum smelters, as well as progress at new aluminum projects, point to further growth in China’s monthly aluminum output.
