China's northern Qinhuangdao port said Monday it received 4.237 million mt of coal by rail in the week to April 8, down 661,000 mt, or 14.3%, week on week.

QINHUANGDAO, Apr. 10 (Platts) -- China's northern Qinhuangdao port said Monday it received 4.237 million mt of coal by rail in the week to April 8, down 661,000 mt, or 14.3%, week on week, due to the 23-day maintenance of the Datong-Qinhuangdao railroad which started April 5.

The maintenance is estimated to cut throughput on the line by about 200,000 mt/day. As a result, Qinhuangdao port's inbound coal railings will drop by 100,000-120,000 mt/day.

Outbound coal shipments from the Qinhuangdao port fell 216,000 mt or 4.1% week on week to 5.117 million mt in the week to April 8.

Meanwhile, coal stocks at Qinhuangdao port dropped 830,000 mt week on week to 5.76 million mt on Monday, a year-to-date low. The stocks compare with 6.95 million mt on March 27 and 7.65 million mt on March 18. Stocks at the port rose steadily this year since hitting 6.36 million mt on January 1, reaching a year-to-date high of 8.34 million mt on February 22.
