China's Coal Imports Up 154.07% in Feb

China saw its coal imports surge 154.07% year on year to 17.02 million metric tons in February this year, according to figures released by the General Administration of Customs yesterday.

Mar. 22, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China saw its coal imports surge 154.07% year on year to 17.02 million metric tons in February this year, according to figures released by the General Administration of Customs yesterday.

Last month, China's coal exports reached 1.21 million metric tons.

The National Development and Reform Commission, the country's top economic planner, said today that it plans to cap the country's coal production capacity at 4.1 billion metric tons and coal output at 3.9 billion metric tons in 2015.

By 2015, the government will control the number of coal mines in the country within 4,000, and form ten large coal enterprises each with annual production capacity of at least 100 million metric tons and another ten 50-million-ton coal companies.

China aims to increase its coal transportation capacity to 2.6 billion metric tons by 2015.
