Thirteen Miners Trapped in Flooded Mine in NE China

Thirteen miners were trapped underground in a flooded coal mine in the city of Jixi in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, local authorities said Thursday.

HARBIN, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Thirteen miners were trapped underground in a flooded coal mine in the city of Jixi in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, local authorities said Thursday.

The accident happened at a coal mine in Jidong County at around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, an official with the Jixi government said.

The rescue operation is underway. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
