SHANGHAI, Sept. 26 (SMM) --
Aluminum:
According to the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA), China’s total aluminum output was 1.60 million mt during August, up 0.65% MoM and up 6.72% YoY. Annualized capacity of August output was 18.83 million mt, down slightly from July. The gradual commissioning of new capacity at Liancheng Aluminum Company was behind the slight increase in aluminum output during August. Since aluminum producers in Guangxi and Guizhou provinces were forced to cut production due to power restrictions and since September only has 30 days, SMM expects aluminum output in September to fall slightly.
Aluminum Semis:
According to the CNIA, China’s output of aluminum semis was 2.02 million mt during August, up 0.52% MoM and up 26% YoY. According to a recent SMM survey, operating rates at downstream processors remain low and with no signs of improving, so China’s output of aluminum semis will likely fall during September.
