The China Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Association ( CNIA) has released a series of data covering China’s aluminum industry chain (alumina-aluminum-aluminum semis) for H1 2017.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 22 (SMM) – The China Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Association ( CNIA) has released a series of data covering China’s aluminum industry chain (alumina-aluminum-aluminum semis) for H1 2017, as well as forecast for aluminum output and consumption by 2020.

Alumina capacity is concentrated in bauxite-rich regions and near ports. Shandong, Henan and Shanxi were the top three alumina producing regions in H1 2017. Alumina output in these three provinces totaled 21.39 million tonnes in H1 2017, over 75% of national total.

As of the end of May, aluminum capacity in China totaled 41.02 million tonnes. Currently, 38 million tonnes of aluminum capacity are in operation, and over 7 million tonnes are under construction.

Primary aluminum output in 11 provinces in west China totaled 9.21 million tonnes in H1 2017, nearly 60% of national total. Shandong was the top producer, with output up 12.1% year-on-year to 3.94 million tonnes, over 25% of national total.

Watch Out for Restarts at Aluminum Smelters in China, SMM Warns

The CNIA sees China’s apparent aluminum consumption and output both at 40 million tonnes by 2020.

Aluminum processing plants are concentrated in raw material supply regions and consumption hubs. Aluminum semis output in Shandong and Henan was 9.77 million tonnes and 8.44 million tonnes, respectively, in H1 2017, ranking the first and second place in China.
