Shanghai May Raise Subsidies for Green Energy Vehicles

SHANGHAI, Aug. 17 -- Shanghai may add subsidies of RMB 20,000 for plug-in hybrid vehicle purchases and RMB 40,000 to RMB 50,000 for battery electric vehicle purchases on the basis of  the national subsidy program for green energy vehicles, Shanghai Daily reported, citing Liu Jianhua, director of the Shanghai Municipal Promotion Office for New Energy Vehicles.

The subsidy plan has been submitted to the relevant national authorities, said Liu.

Shanghai also intends to assist the construction of green energy vehicles facilities. The initial charging stations will be set up in Jia Ding district, followed by Chang Ning, Pudong, Ming Hang and Chong Ming district.

Liu added that the city aims to put 20,000 electric vehicles on roads by 2012, with an annual production capacity of 10,000. Charging points and charging stations for green energy vehicles may reach 25,000 and 50 units by 2012, respectively.
