Sichuan Province to Build Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

SHANGHAI, Feb. 4 (SMM) -- In the near future, electric vehicle charging stations is expected to be seen everywhere in Sichuan province like gas stations. Wang Shuxiang, General Manager of Sichuan Electricity Power Corporation, a subsidiary of State Grid said on February 1st that the company will develop a system construction project of electric vehicle charging stations in Sichuan. Therefore, Sichuan province will become the first province in China of building electric vehicle charging stations.

Sichuan Electricity Power Corporation is making the best use of its time to work out a plan for Chengdu city of electric vehicle charging infrastructure system construction, in an effort to create conditions for application of electric vehicles in the local. According to its preliminary plan, total investment in systematic construction of electric vehicle charging facilities in Chengdu city, capital of Sichuan province will be no less than RMB 4.5 billion during a three-year period, from 2010 to 2013, and will build no less than 20 charging stations for electric vehicles, no less than 20 power-exchange stations, no less than 1,000 charging spots, and 1 monitoring center. Meanwhile, special-fund investment will be available for construction and innovation of 10 KV and below power distribution networks. In addition, Sichuan Electricity Power Corporation also plans to build a company of electric vehicle new energy service, providing service of battery rent, exchange, and examination and maintenance.

The beginning of construction of electric vehicle charging stations indicates electric vehicles has got some market acceptance. In the next few years, China will likely experience rapid progress of electric car application. In this context, demand from electric vehicles for lead-acid battery will be stimulated.
