In early trading in London on Monday, most precious metals, including Lun Copper, generally maintained a narrow volatility after profit-taking at the end of Friday and changes in the US bond market. However, the price of tin futures fell sharply after the opening of trading, and the underlying price also fell 5.53% on Friday.
As of press time, tin for LME delivery fell 6.68% to US $23490 / ton, down more than 14% from the current high of US $27430. Tin futures have soared from $12775 since the end of the epidemic in March last year, driven by supply shortages of electronic components and emotional jiao at the end of the year, rising more than 30 per cent from $20355 at the beginning of the year. Hot trading sentiment has also led to a spot premium in the market.
As a lead-free solder commonly used in mobile phones and notebook computers, tin inventory in Europe and the United States has also caused concern. According to earlier media reports, tin stocks on the London Metal Exchange, which is home to the largest tin inventories in western countries, fell to a record low of less than 800tonnes this year, down 90 per cent from 8000 tonnes in the same period in 2019. The supply of new tin mines has continued to decline over the past two years, while demand from manufacturers such as integrated circuit boards has continued to rise, and the entire supply chain has been tight in the fourth quarter of last year. In contrast, tin stocks on the Shanghai Futures Exchange reached 8362 tons, up 961 tons from the previous month, according to the weekly report on Feb. 26.
In addition, the recent situation in Myanmar has also had an impact on the trend of tin prices. According to statistics, the country produced 54000 tons of tin last year, ranking third in the world after China and Indonesia, accounting for about 17% of the world's production capacity.
