SMM12: a five-day national strike by gold miner B2Gold and its main workers' union in West African countries has not affected its mining activities at the Fekola mine in Mali. The national Malian workers' union, (UNTM), which represents 80 per cent of Malian union workers, launched a strike on Monday after a stalemate over wages and working conditions with the government.
B2Gold said it had reached an agreement with workers to continue full production at Fekola and is expected to produce 590000 to 620000 ounces of gold this year.
Mali is one of Africa's largest gold producers, but several international mining companies, including Resolute Mining, say their production has not been disrupted by industrial action.
